Spring is on its way!

At last the days are getting longer, and whilst the weather is still pretty chilly, the birds are singing away quite happily and the sun has been shining. We are getting ready to reopen for the season - we open on 3rd March - and have been busy cutting back the trees and bushes before our visitors start to arrive.  We still have availability for Easter, so if you fancy a trip to the Somerset countryside we would love to see you!

Autumn has arrived?

After a hectic summer here at Spindlewood, has Autumn arrived? There was a distinct chill in the air this morning when I let the chickens out. And blackberries and apples are in abundance -  I have been busy making apple sauce to freeze and apple and blackberry to eat! However, the sun has been making an appearance this morning and still seems to have some heat in it. Many of our regular visitors like to come and stay at this time of the year. The children are back at school and so for...

We are looking forward to greeting back familiar faces for their summer holidays - and hope that you may join them. There is so much to do - although at times it will feel as though you are miles from anywhere. That's why many people like to return here - and why we love it too! If you fancy a break in this beautiful part of the countryside, give us a ring 01749 890367.

Autumn is here.....

Autumn has well and truly arrived and the trees are looking glorious as they change from green to various shades of yellow and brown. However, the sun is still shining and it is lovely and warm sitting on the verandah of a lodge. Our chickens and ducks are having a great time foraging under the trees in the fallen leaves. Apples have been picked and turned into apple sauce and chutney and we are now beginning to wind down after a busy season. But if you fancy a visit before Christmas,...

And the summer continues...

Well, what a great summer it has been! Lots of sunshine and lots of happy visitors to Spindlewood - just the way we like it. Things are starting to quieten down here now -and the apples are just about ready to pick - so I will be busy making some homemade apple sauce and chutney over the next couple of weeks. But September is often one of the best times to visit rural Somerset. The peace and quiet along with the continuing good weather make it a perfect place to relax and unwind. Why...

What a great setting, it's the first time that we have stayed here and we would love to come back. These are the nicest lodges we have stayed in - everything has been thought of. Just a bit hard to find the first time!!! In the days of overcrowded caravan parks and camp sites it's great to find somewhere with so much space and privacy. We had some great days out at Longleat, Bristol Zoo and Cheddar Gorge, which even though it was raining was still amazing and the rain doesn't affect you in the caves. Also had a lovely day in Lyme Regis looking around the shops and fossil hunting. We didn't try any of the local pubs other than the Wetherspoon at Wells, which is close, easy to find and good value. Also would recommend the Castle of Comfort pub; we found it on the way back from Bristol about five miles from the lodges. Lots of daily specials at sensible prices.
